Why Local Insect Control Matters
Insects behave differently depending on climate, construction styles, and surrounding landscapes. Here in Princeton, TX, our warm seasons and growing neighborhoods between McKinney and Farmersville create conditions for many insects to thrive. Working with a local team that understands these patterns can make a real difference in how quickly and effectively your issue is handled.
Because we live and work in Collin County, we see how ants surge after heavy spring rains, how spiders move into garages as new homes are built, and how insects find their way into older buildings around town. When we inspect a property, we already have a strong sense of which insects are most likely involved and where they tend to hide or nest.
That local insight allows us to focus our inspections, reduce guesswork, and recommend treatments that line up with what actually happens in Princeton homes and businesses. It also helps us give practical prevention tips that reflect our streets, soil, and weather, not advice copied from another region.
Our Safe Insect Treatment Approach
When insects are inside your home, safety is often your first question. You want effective treatments, but you also want to protect children, pets, and sensitive family members. Our team shares that concern. We focus on low toxicity products and integrated pest management so we can target insects while limiting unnecessary chemical use.
Integrated pest management is a simple idea that makes a big difference. We start with a careful inspection to understand which insects are present, how they are getting inside, and what is attracting them. Then we combine targeted treatments, physical adjustments, and recommendations to reduce the chances of insects returning.
Our technicians choose products based on the type of insect, where they are located, and how your household uses each room. For example, the approach for treating ants along an exterior foundation will look different from what we suggest for insects around a child’s playroom. We explain these decisions, answer your questions, and talk through any preferences you may have.
Common Insects We Treat Locally
Living in Princeton means sharing your space with a variety of insects that are well adapted to North Texas conditions. Understanding which insects are involved helps us choose the right combination of treatments and prevention steps for your property.
In many Princeton homes we visit, ants are one of the most frequent concerns. They may appear in long trails along baseboards or around kitchens and bathrooms. Spiders often show up in garages, attics, and exterior corners, especially near outdoor lighting. Termites and other wood damaging insects can pose serious risks to structures if left unchecked.
Some of the insects we frequently manage in local homes and businesses include:
- Ants that invade kitchens, bathrooms, patios, and exterior walls
- Spiders that gather in garages, storage areas, and outdoor eaves
- Termites and other wood destroying insects that can damage structures
- Occasional invaders such as pantry pests or other nuisance insects

Fire AntsThe red imported fire ant is not an ant species native to Texas. Rather, it was originally introduced to the United States from South America. These ants are dark rust-red in color and can reach up to ? inch in size. They typically build their mounded ground nests outdoors in areas that get a fair amount of sun.
Unfortunately, these pests have no known predators, and can thus grow in numbers exponentially once they find a place to build their colony. If they perceive a threat to their nest, the red imported fire ant will attack and sting people, wildlife, or even machinery. If stung, they will leave behind a red welt that can last for up to a week.
-
Rover AntsThe Rover ant is not an ant native to Texas. In fact, it’s a fairly new Texas ant species that found its way to the United States from Argentina and Paraguay. Very small in size, rover ants are pale yellow to blackish-brown in color and have relatively large eyes compared to the size of their heads.
Though they are not aggressive in nature, rover ants do have a tendency to invade properties in large numbers. They are attracted to moisture, and thus build their colonies around rot or fungal decay. This Texas ant species is most active during the spring and summer seasons.

Tawny Crazy AntsFirst discovered around Houston in 2002, tawny crazy ants arrived in Texas from South America. Among the smaller types of ants in Texas, the Tawny Crazy Ant is only about 1/10 inch in length. These ants are reddish-brown in color and are most recognizable by the way they move. Rather than traveling in a straight line, these small, uniformly-sized ants follow a zig-zag like pattern.
Since they became among the many types of ants in Texas, tawny crazy ants spread quickly throughout the southern part of the United States. They often show up on properties in large numbers. Their plentiful population along with their ability to bite (they cannot sting) creates a nuisance for landowners.
-
Carpenter AntsCarpenter ants are among the ants native to Texas. These large black ants grow to be ½ inch or more in length. They prefer moist, humid environments and will infest homes while developing and expanding their colonies.
They are often mistaken for termites (and vice versa). However, unlike termites, they do not eat wood. Rather, carpenter ants tunnel through wood to create galleries, and in the process, they leave behind piles of sawdust or “frass” on the floor. This Texas ant species can cause extensive damage to your home or property if left to its own devices.
-
Pharaoh AntsAlso called “sugar ants” or “piss ants,” pharaoh ants are some of the smallest ants, about 1/12-1/16 inch long, with a light tan to reddish body. pharaoh ants are the most commonly occurring indoor ants in Texas.
In hospitals, it has been suspected to be a carrier of more than a dozen pathogenic bacteria including Staphylococcus, Salmonella, Pseudomonas, and Clostridium. These ants do not sting and usually do not bite. Pharaoh ants are omnivorous, feeding on sweets (jelly, particularly mint apple jelly, sugar, honey, etc.), cakes and bread, and greasy or fatty foods (pies, butter, liver, and bacon).
-
Acrobat AntsThese tiny ants get their name because of their ability to lift their abdomen over their heads. They are light brown to black in color and the workers only grow to be around 2.5 and 4 mm long.
Although acrobat ants usually live outdoors in nests that they build in dead or decaying wood, sometimes they invade homes and establish colonies inside tunnels and galleries previously carved out by carpenter ants or termites. Therefore, if you see tiny black ants in your Texas home, this could be an indicator that you have another ant species infestation as well.
What To Expect From Our Princeton Team
When you reach out to our insect control Princeton residents often ask what the process looks like. We want you to know what will happen and when, so there are no surprises. During your initial contact, we ask a few questions about what you are seeing, how long it has been going on, and any previous treatments or products you may have tried.
Next, we schedule a time that works for you and send a technician to your home or business. During the visit, our technician inspects key areas inside and outside the structure, looking for insect activity, entry points, moisture issues, and other conditions that may be contributing to the problem. We explain what we find in plain language and answer any questions while we are on site.
Once we understand your situation, we outline a tailored treatment plan. This includes where we recommend treating, what types of products we plan to use, and what simple steps you can take to support the results. You receive upfront, transparent pricing before work begins, so you know exactly what you are paying for.
After treatment, our goal is to help you feel confident about what comes next. We talk about what you may see in the short term, when to call us with concerns, and how preventative steps can reduce future insect issues.
